HealthyDiningFinder.com Receives Web Health Award

Health Information Resource Center Recognizes Best Web-Based Health-Related Content

San Diego, CA - November 5, 2009 - Today, Healthy Dining announces the acceptance of the prestigious Bronze Web Health Award from the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC) under the category of “Health Promotion” website. This award program recognizes “the best Web-based health-related content for consumers and professionals.” The HIRC is the organization that provides a “seal of quality” for electronic health information.

HealthyDiningFinder.com is the only online resource that offers Americans nutrition information for ‘dietitian-approved Healthy Dining menu choices’ served at more than 60,000 participating restaurant locations, from coast to coast, spanning fast food to fine dining. The site also provides inspirational and educational nutrition content, blogs, e-newsletters and other dining out and nutrition-related information. The HIRC evaluated the site on “accuracy, success in reaching the targeted audience and overall quality.” According to Chris Behrend of the HIRC, HealthyDiningFinder.com was “rated excellent by our panel of judges.” The judges are comprised of international health information and Internet experts.

“We are honored to accept this award,” emphasizes Anita Jones-Mueller, MPH, President of Healthy Dining. “I especially want to thank the participating restaurants featured on the site for their leadership roles in joining the Healthy Dining initiative and offering their customers ‘dietitian-approved Healthy Dining choices.’” Jones-Mueller added that she wanted to also “thank the National Restaurant Association for their proactive partnership in this important initiative.”

"We are pleased that Healthy Dining has been honored with the Web Health Award and are proud to be a partner on the HealthyDiningFinder.com Web site," said Dawn Sweeney, President and CEO of the National Restaurant Association. "American diners are becoming more interested in making smart choices when dining out and many seek nutrition information online before they choose a restaurant. HealthyDiningFinder.com is a tremendously helpful resource to guests who want to enjoy their restaurant visit while keeping their waistlines in mind."

Kyle Kraus, Managing Director of Digital at The Food Group, a New York-based ad agency that delivers food & beverage marketing for manufacturers & retailers, designed the HealthyDiningFinder.com website. “The Food Group’s exceptional ability to understand Healthy Dining’s unique platform and apply it in the digital world truly set them apart,” said Jones-Mueller. The site is also maintained by the Food Group. Plans are in process to expand the site to allow for mobile access, social networking and other Web 2.0 features.

Other recipients of the Web Health Awards include AARP, About.com, Aetna, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Eating Well, Humana, Mayo Clinic, and The National Cancer Institute.
